Common questions about our train the trainer courses
To become a first aid trainer in the UK, you typically need a current First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate as a prerequisite, along with a recognised trainer qualification such as our Level 3 Award in First Aid Trainer / Assessor. No prior teaching experience is required — our courses are designed to take you from practitioner to qualified trainer in just a few days. You will learn how to plan, deliver and assess first aid training sessions, manage a training room, and meet the requirements of awarding bodies such as SafeCert. Once qualified, you can deliver Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and First Aid at Work (FAW) courses to workplace learners, schools, and community groups.
Most trainer qualifications issued by Abertay Training are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. As your certificate approaches its expiry date, you will need to complete a requalification or refresher course to maintain your trainer status and continue delivering accredited training legally. We recommend booking your requalification at least 3 months before your certificate expires to avoid any gap in your ability to train. Abertay Training offers requalification courses at all our UK venues and via live Zoom, so renewing your qualification is straightforward and flexible around your schedule. We will also send you a reminder as your renewal date approaches.
Yes — all of our trainer courses are available via live interactive Zoom and lead to exactly the same nationally recognised qualification as our face-to-face courses. Our online Zoom training is not pre-recorded; you join a live virtual classroom with an expert trainer and fellow delegates, taking part in discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises adapted for online delivery. You will need a reliable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone. Course materials are sent to you in advance, and your certificate is issued digitally upon successful completion. Zoom training is ideal if you prefer to learn from home, cannot travel to a venue, or need a flexible schedule.
Our course prices are fully inclusive with no hidden extras. Everything you need to qualify is covered, including all training materials and delegate workbooks, your formal assessment and marking, your accredited certificate from SafeCert or the relevant awarding body, and access to our post-qualification support service. For face-to-face courses held at our UK venues, refreshments and a hot lunch are also provided throughout the day. For Zoom courses, your materials are sent to you digitally in advance. VAT is charged at the standard rate and is shown separately at checkout. There are no additional registration fees or exam fees to pay.
Yes, all of our trainer courses are fully accredited by recognised UK awarding bodies. The majority of our courses are accredited by SafeCert Awards, a nationally recognised awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual. Our fire safety trainer courses carry endorsement from the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), one of the most respected professional bodies in the fire sector. Abertay Training is also independently certified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), demonstrating our commitment to the highest standards of training delivery. All qualifications are accepted by employers, insurers, and professional bodies across the UK.

Yes — once you have successfully completed your assessment and received your accredited certificate, you are fully qualified to begin delivering training courses straight away. There is no waiting period or probationary period. Many of our delegates book their first training session before they have even finished their qualifier course. You will receive a digital copy of your certificate within a few working days of completing the course, and a printed certificate follows shortly after. We also provide you with a comprehensive resource pack including lesson plans, presentation slides, and delegate handouts to help you hit the ground running with confidence from day one.
